Figurez-vous qu'à l'école, j'adorais lire, mais je détestais écrire. Quand il fallait écrire une “explication de texte”, je ne savais pas par où commencer, et encore moins comment finir !
Mais, quand je suis devenue enseignante—après avoir passé quinze ans à tourner des pots dans mon studio de poterie—j'ai découvert que j'aimais beaucoup créer des jeux et écrire des histoires.
Michel-Ange disait que sa sculpture se trouvait déjà dans le bloc de marbre: il s'agissait simplement d'enlever ce qu'il y avait de trop. Quant à moi, je m'imagine que mes histoires sont déja dans mon ordinateur. Je n'ai qu'à taper sur les touches, et elles apparaissent sur l'écran !

Little Kid Reaction: Our child liked this book. Because of the amount of text, we split it up over two readings. She particularly loved participating in the story ... as a boat engine, rocking on the boat, etc.
Big Kid Reaction: This is a fun story to read. You find yourself routing for Charlie right away! Although the book isn't divided into chapters, it is easy to parse if you want or need to. The lesson about winning ... and carefully reading the rules should not be missed!
Educational Themes: Although this is largely meant to be a story for recreational reading, there are still themes and topics to draw from the tale: perseverence and self respect; problem solving and planning; winning and abiding by the rule; and appearance v. substance (vacation boaters v. true-blue fisherman).

I found that The Old Man and the C is a fun story to read to pre-schoolers, and, I suspect, an adventure exciting enough to hold the interest of young readers. The story begins a bit like the classic- with an old fisherman who sets out to catch the biggest fish in the sea. But then it dishes out one surprise after another, until the final triumphant ending!
